Design Inspiration: The Great Gatsby

We’ve been waiting to show these beautiful Great Gatsby pictures. We still swoon over these beautiful images Siegal Thurston Photography captured. You will be breathless over Art Deco details in these jewels and gowns.

From the Design Team:  “The inspiration for the 1920’s theme came from the movie trailer about The Great Gatsby film that is going to be released next year. We were inspired to do something bridal using the fun and glamorous looks from the 20’s. The Del Mar Racetrack was the perfect venue for this timeless piece of history. We all love vintage but we took that word to a whole new level with this carefully executed wedding shoot. We chose ornate details where needed like the original handcrafted furniture from that time period as well as the glamorous modern gowns that had the perfect Gatsby twist.
Of course, since the vintage wedding theme is still hugely popular, there’s lots of inspiration to be taken from our Del Mar racetrack shoot.
For your wedding day, consider vintage elements but keep the look in check! A fully beaded gown with a jeweled headband and bracelets may be all you need. Whether you incorporate a small element such as delicate lace or a bold red lip, or go full out as pictured, this look can be easy to master!
We love the two veils below accented with either pearls or additional silver crystal jewelry and beading. It adds a delicate whimsy to the look that gives a fun nod to the 20′s theme.

Celebrating Women Entrepreneurs

An amazing revolution is forming among women right now. Back in the 1970′s woman were leaving their homestead to join the workforce. But now woman are leaving the workforce to go back home. Not as homemakers but as entrepreneurs.

With more women starting businesses and succeeding, there’s an opportunity to reshape the working landscape. Many women start businesses that align with personal values and interest. Just as Sandra Nicole Designs has done. The bridal industry has always been an interest of both Sandra and Nicole. Sandra Nicole has always been committed to creating exquisite looks for our brides.

For some women, dissatisfaction with the corporate world begins before they have a chance to even enter the workforce. The road to entrepreneurship for Nicole came after she tried to pursue a career after college but was rejected by Corporate America . “After several companies didn’t give me a job on the grounds that I didn’t have enough experience My Mother and I took it upon ourselves to make our own success” Now with the help of her Mother, Sandra, the artistic side of the company, Sandra Nicole is now flourishing with brides seeking them out to style them head to toe.

Making the world a better place one worker and workplace at a time will certainly be a road paved with challenges but if we can dig our heels in and prove ourselves in tough situations, I think we can get through anything. One thing is for sure: this women’s movement is here to stay and it’s getting bigger and bigger. And the Dalai Lama definitely had it right when he recently said “Western Women will save the world.” And my money is on the entrepreneurs.

Crazy for Mad Men

We are featuring this Mad Men-esque Modern photo shoot designed by Laura Lorraine Designs, captured by Randi Marie Photography. This beautiful shoot took place at Noor’s Ella ballroom in Pasadena, California. It was a spot-on location for this mid-century vibe inspirational shoot. We must say that we are completely smitten with the 50′s bouffant hair styles. We would love to see a bride with one of these classic hair styles.

To replicate the 1950’s timeless era, the design for the shoot was inspired by the chevron linens from La Tavloe, gorgeous florals by Savvy Flowers, a playful sweet station with custom backdrop by Cake Goodness, and stunning couture gowns by Alina Pizzano Bridal Couture.

Rustic Romance

Bryan and Caroline were married at Condors Nest Ranch in Pala, California. Their wedding is full of whimsy and lace, peonies and twinkling lights plus so much more! And of course I just love her pretty lace dress and cowboy boots.  Bryan and Caroline really wanted to throw a big party and their goal was to make sure their guests had a great time, so they meticulously selected food that represented their tastes and made everything as fun and beautiful as they possibly could without making anything too formal with tons of lights! Just a good time and great reason to celebrate. Big thanks to the lovely EP Love photography for the photos and congrats to Bryan and Caroline!

Our Advice to Those Planning Now

Just know what you want. Don’t waffle and waste time. Think about what is most important to you and go for it.  Oh and don’t skimp on photography, if it is important to you. That is a great area to splurge a little. Odds are you will not regret it. You can relive the day anytime through our fantastic images documenting the day. And lastly, do not worry about tradition. If you want to make your own rules, then go for it. It is your day and don’t let anyone tell you that you have to do it one way or another. It should really be up to the bride and groom when it comes down to it.

Roarin’ 20′s

With The Great Gatsby about to be released in theaters this fall, we thought it would be perfect to bring to light a 1920′s wedding theme. We predict that whimsical, 1920s vintage is going to be big next year. The roaring 1920s were all about glam, big celebrations, and wild parties. Who wouldn’t want that for their wedding?

Some individuals truly believe they belong in a different time period and what better way to pretend to be in that time period then your “Big Day”.

Wedding planning for a themed affair always takes a little extra time and effort but it is one that would truly be remembered by you and your guests. When people think of the 1920s, they expect flapper dresses, pinstriped zoot jackets and trousers for the men, and long ropes of pearls for the jewelry.

Headpieces are a must for any 1920s bride. We recommend bird-cage veils or decorative headbands.

People in the 1920s were all about revolution and change. They made it known through their lifestyle and fashion. Recreate the glamorous parties that made the 1920′s infamous!

All in the Family

Having a family heirloom to be a part of your special day will not only satisfy the brides “something old” it will also tell a unique story that can be captured in photos. For brides this can be a locket tied to the bouquet of a loved one that has passed. And for the groom this can be cufflinks passed down.

Here at Sandra Nicole we wanted something that can be passed down from generation to generation. A keepsake that can tell a story, the lasso.

The lasso tradition generally utilizes a rope or a long strand of beads, which are placed in a figure eight pattern across the shoulders of the husband and wife to be. In most cases, someone important to the couple, generally parents or members of the wedding party, place the lasso upon the bride and groom once they have exchanged their vows. Once the ceremony is completed, the lasso is removed and presented to the bride as a keepsake. This can be passed down through generations and something meaningful from parents and grandparents.

Bride on a Budget

We feel that every bride should have an amazing accessory regardless of your budget. Not all of us can be dripping in diamonds like Kim Kardashian. We have plenty of eye-catching items from dazzling headpieces to dainty hair pins.

It’s much more budget-savvy to go with a simple dress and then glam up your look with accessories. Just accessorizing the right way can really give your dress the polished and beautiful look you wanted for your day.
